  4. // Pls tell me one thing where took place the war between Lord Subramanya and Sooran, is it present Thiruchendur or some else.//

Present day Thirup-param kundram, Madurai (Meenakshi temple) Thirumaaliruncholai etc were established after the Pandyans shifted their capital to Madurai after the 3rd deluge which happened 3500 years ago. That combination of places existed in ThenMAdurai (தென் மதுரை)-about 12,000 years ago. Wherever they shifted after deluges, the people reestablished them and continued the memory and worship.

I will be writing it in forthcoming articles as also the significance behind daksha yaagam, Shiva shifting his abode to the South after his fury on Dakshan - for the sake of reestablishing new cycle of mankind, the meaning of 6 females of Kaarthikai bringing up Murugan etc.

All these have some geological relevance in Nature and using the geological history we can even pinpoint the period of dakshan. If you are curious to know now itself, browse the net for 'Toba catastrophe theory' which happened 70,000 years ago. The re generation of mankind after that spread to today's India. Almost all of us from India to Europe to Russia to Americas have our ancestors from this group.

Coming to Thiruchendur, though I have not analysed the existing literary works in tamil on Murugan, I have gone through only to the extent that is needed for this article. As per that, Ugra Pandyan, son of Meenakshi - Sundareswarar was regarded as Murugan or Kumaran. Madurai kalambakam says so. The location of Murugan as the prince of ThenMadurai was deep south which I have indicated earlier in the series.

The Deep south is regarded as the home for Asuras like Sura padman. In the description on Murugan's victory over Sooran, we come across an expression "குருகு எறிந்த குமரன்" in Paripadal. I will write about this in a latter article. Kurugu means kundram (குன்றம்) or hill. A surprising similarity is that the early work of 1st sangam also bore the same name as Muthukurugu and Muthunaarai (முதுகுருகு) This was lost and so far we have not come across any reference to what this work was about. But going by the name Mudukurugu, I infer that it was about the leelas of Murugan in Kurugu (hills)

It was in a hill that Murugan met Valli, of hunter tribe (Thirupparam kundram). The region explained in the above article also had such olden tribes. The Paripadal song says how Murugan married Valli to clinch a balance between celestials (Devanai) and a humans (Valli), thereby making us infer that the celestial incarnation such as Murugan created a connection with Humans by his marriage with Valli.

Perhaps the Mudukurugu which was in musical form contained the story of marriage with Murugan and his escapades in Thirup param kundram which was close to ThenMadurai.

Kurugu is related to Sooran also. Therefore I infer that Muthukurugu of 1st Sangam was about the feats of Murugan which happened in a location around Thenmathurai (தென் மதுரை). Thenmadurai was not part of Jambu dweepa, but of Shaka dweepa - this is my contention.

Because Surapadman was said to have hidden the way to Jambudweepa in the north (paripadal)in the form of a mango tree (paripaadal says). For the location of Shaka dweepa which I have explained in the series, Jambu dweepa is in the north of it. So the hindrance caused by Sooran is in a hill / mountain (90 degree mountain range)that is now submerged but which was part of Jambu dweepa. By this description, the present day Thiruchendur was same as the old one and it was the location of sooran vadam.

A detailed study of all works on Murugan must be done to establish the original locations of all the padai veedukaL. I am not concentrating on that topic now.

Can we assume that the legend of Ugra Pandyan latter assimilated in to the mythology of Lord Karthikeya at later stage and evolved in to the current mythology of Lord Muruga. Will that mean Lord subramanya mentioned in vedas is a personality different from Ugra Pandyan who was Lord Muruga and later these two personalities were merged to form the common mythology of Lord Muruga.

//A detailed study of all works on Murugan must be done to establish the original locations of all the padai veedukaL. I am not concentrating on that topic now//

Since Lord muruga was considered as "Tamil Kadavul", tamils being his beloved people, the study would reveal more significant facts.

I observe that, all the castes(kulam which would be more appropriate) have some legend about the mythical origin of their ancestors.
In that line of thought I read about the links which my present kulam or caste have with kanda puranam. It was said that our ancestors descended from veerabahu, on of the nine warriors who accompanied Lord Muruga in his battle against the demons, it was said that later they took weaving as their profession.

If Ugra Pandyan who was lord muruga and the "nava veerarkal" were in ThenMadurai, then can I trace my toot to root to ThenMadurai during Pandyan's reign.

In that case most of the castes we find in tamil nadu today would have originated in Sakha Dweepa and thus having a long history than what was believed.

Please provide your insights regarding these thoughts.

  11. Dear Mr Chalam,

The stories of Skanda must be read as how I said we must read Indra's stories. I hope you recall the 3 way depiction of Indra I have written early in this series. Like him, Skanda is also understood as a Concept in Nature, as one who really lived in huuman form and mingled with commoners and as a God.

The Daksha yaaga and its aftermath are happenings related to Nature and Skanda's birth connected with that story is also a happening in Nature. Let me not keep up the secret of it and say here that the eruption of Mount Toba in Indonesia that happened 70,000 years ago was the manifestation in Nature of Shiva destroying Thiripuram. The Paripadal depiction of skanda is unique from other written records in that it goes well with this eruption and the after-cooling of the flowing landmass. Mt Toba eruption is an important landmark in the trace of mankind in genetics and I will be writing all that.

At another level Muruga walked on this earth and married Valli. The Veriyaattam of Velan which is repeatedly expressed in Kurunthogai can not be dismissed, because without a progenitor of those customs, they would have come into existence. The breaking of Kurugu, Krouncha etal were done by this Muruga very much in human form. It is not just a cult. I place Krouncha in New Zealand and the Maori tribes as having Mayuri connection to Muruga's army. There are resemblances which I will write in this series.

You said about Veera bahu connection to your kulam. Can you give details? I have some info on a people of Kancheepuram who were driven by Karikal Chozan (allegedly) who were worshipers of Veera bahu. The info that you give could help me in fine tuning that.

One thing, these kancheepuram people had their location previously in Gujarath and before that in 'Dravida" with Manu and much before that in Shaka dweepa in the South!!

  12. Dear Mam,
Thank you very much for your elaboration. Now I clearly understand the 3 level significance of Deities.
// I place Krouncha in New Zealand and the Maori tribes as having Mayuri connection to Muruga's army//.
This is what exactly I am thinking about. The legend of skanda might cover a larger territory.

A lot of researches has been done on Ramayana and Mahabaratha on historical perspective. Thanks to those scholars, people started seeing the epics as a historical fact.

But the legend of Lord Muruga as evidenced in sakanda purana was seen under mythological perspective only due to lack of research.

As Your excellent work on shaka dweepa have connection to this subject, it would be appropriate for you to expand the research on skanda purana. This would influence the Lord Muruga's bhaktas to see their beloved Lord in historical perspective also.

This was not done before and I personally think that only you have the right knowledge for this task.

//The info that you give could help me in fine tuning that.//

Though I do not like to identify myself through
a particular caste, I would like to trace the root through the connected myth.

I took the following from wikipedia.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sengunthar

    "Mythical origin from Navavirars
Legend[48] says Lord Siva was enraged against the giants who harassed the people of the earth and sent forth six sparks of fire from his eyes. His wife, Parvati, was frightened, and retired to her chamber and in so doing, dropped nine beads from her anklets. Siva converted the beads into as many females, to each of whom was born a hero with full-grown moustaches and a dagger. These nine heroes, namely Viravagu, Virakesari, Viramahendrar, Viramaheshwar, Virapurandharar, Viraraakkathar, Viramaarthandar, Viraraanthakar and Veerathirar with Lord Subrahmanya at their head, marched in command of a large force, and destroyed the demons. Kaikolar claim to be the descendants of these warriors. After killing the demon, the warriors were told by Siva that they adopt a profession, which would not involve the destruction or injury of any living creature and weaving being such a profession, they were trained in it. Chithira valli,[49] daughter of Virabahu, one of the above commanders was married to Musukunthan and gave birth to Angi Vanman. His descendants were claimed as first generation of Sengunthars. The above legend was also depicted by Adhi Saiva saint Kachiappa Sivachariyar of Kanchipuram around 14th to 15th century AD[50] in his masterpiece Kanthapuranam.[51]"

Thanks for making me understand these things so I would be able to pass the right knowledge to the next generation

I will give some info on Murugan related issues. But I can not venture out to write on all/ most events of Skanda purana, as I have to study the entire text first and analyse. It will take time. But what I will be covering in this series on Murugan will be core issues that will give a connect to the people to the distant past.

Thanks once again for the inputs. You mentioned Kaikolar. Is there any info on them?

Thanks for the consideration.I remember reading from a book that there were around 20 tribes in Africa who worshiped a Mountain Deity in the name "Murunga".

I feel that in the future whent start your venture in this subject, lot of interesting info will be revealed.

//You mentioned Kaikolar. Is there any info on them?//

Kaikolar and Sengunthar are Synonymous and are commonly called as Senguntha Mudaliars.

They were predominantly saivaities and worshiped
Lord Muruga and Amman in different names in different places. They were warriors, traders and weavers.

I am not sure how the clan was mythologically linked to the Lord Murugan's legend.

I found these information in wikipedia.

You used to ask about historicity of Lord Muruga / Kanda / Skanda. The Skanda cult is so widespread that I am looking at all possible proofs from South America to Australia to Indonesia to Africa to Scandinavia. My 3 part article on ear piercing culture of the Vedic society deals with the influence of Skanda cult of Shamanism (like "Velan veriyattam") that controls Yakshas and the Tamils called as Tamoanchan by Olmec people of Mexico (1500 BC) in South America. They were written in English as they had to be circulated to scholars around the world. (They would be written in Tamil in this blog later.) They are uploaded in this blog and can be read here.

    உங்கள் பாராட்டுக்கு நன்றி.

    //ஆனால் மதுரை என்பதற்தற்கு நீங்கள் அளித்த விளக்கம் என்னால் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள முடியவில்லை
    ஐந்தாம் வகுப்பு படிக்கும் குழந்தைக்கு கூட மதுரைக்கு விளக்கம் தெரியும்
    முதுமை+ஊர் மூதூர் (மிக பழமையான ஊர்) மூதூரை என்பது பின் மதுரை என்றானது..
    இதுதான் சரியான விளக்கம். //

    இது யாருக்குச் சரியான விளக்கம்?
    குழந்தைகளுக்கா?
    குழந்தைகள் இவ்வாறு சொன்னால் நாம் அதை சரி செய்ய வேண்டும். ஏனெனில் மூதூர் என்பது எப்படி மதுரை என்று திரியும்?

    இந்தக் கட்டுரையிலும், கால்டுவெல் கண்டுபிடித்த திராவிடம் கட்டுரையிலும், சொல் திரிபு குறித்த விளக்கங்கள் தந்துள்ளேன். எப்படி ’திராவிட’ என்பது ’தமிழ்’ என்று திரிய முடியாதோ, அப்படித்தான் ’மூதூர்’ என்பதும் ’மதுரை’ என்று திரிய முடியாது. குறில் நெடிலாகத் திரிவது எளிது. ஆனால் இரண்டு நெடில் குறிலாகத் திரிவது கடினம். அதிலும் அவை தன் வகையில் இல்லாத குறிலாகத் திரியாது. மூதூர் என்பது மோதூர் என்றாகலாம். அல்லது முதூர் என்றாகலாம், அல்லது மட்டூர் (அ) மத்தூர் (கர்நாடகாவில் இருக்கிறது)என்றாகலாம்.

    மூதூர் என்பது இரு சொல் (முதுமை + ஊர்) கொண்டது. மை விகுதி குறைந்து, து = ஊ என்பது தூ என்றானது. நெட்டொலியினால், முதல் எழுத்தும் நெடிலானது. மூ என்பது மு ஆகலாம். ஆனால் மூதூர் என்பதில் வரும் இந்த இரண்டாவது நெடில் இருக்கிறதே, அது எப்படித் திரியும்? திரிய வழியில்லை. ஊ என்னும் வரு சொல்லின் நெடில்தான் இரண்டு நெடில்களைக் கொடுத்தது. அந்த இரண்டு நெடில்களும் குறைந்து, கடை எழுத்து ஐகாரம் எப்படிப் பெற முடியும்?

    தமிழை உயர்த்திச் சொல்லிக் கொண்டே, அந்தப் பெயரே வட மொழிச் சொல்லிலிருந்து திரிந்து வந்தது என்று சொல்வது எப்படித் தவறோ, அவ்வாறுதான், மதுரேசன் என்னும் ஈசனைச் சுற்றி உண்டான மதுரை என்னும் பெயர் மூதூர் என்னும் பொதுச் சொல்லிலிருந்து வந்தது என்று சொல்வதும்.

    எந்தப் பழமையான ஊரும், மூதூராக இருக்க முடியும். மதுரைக்கு மட்டும் அந்தப் பெயர் அல்ல. இன்னும் சொல்லப் போனால், மதுரையைப் பற்றிச் சொல்லும் மதுரைக் கலம்பகம், மதுரைக் கோவை ஆகிய நூல்களில் மதுரை என்றுதான் சொல்லப்பட்டுள்ளதே தவிர, மூதூர் என்பது மருவி மதுரை ஆனது என்று சொல்லப்படவில்லை.

    ஆனால் மதுரை என்பது, கூடல் என்னும் பெயர் மாற்றம் பெற்றது என்று திருவிளையாடல் புராணம் சொல்கிறது. நான்மாடக் கூடலான படலத்தில் 25 ஆம் பாடலில்,
    “ நான்மாடக் கூடலானதான் மதுரை மூதூர்” என்று மதுரை என்னும் மூதூர் என்று இரண்டும் சேர்த்துச் சொல்லப்பட்டுள்ளது.

    மூதூர் என்பது மதுரை அல்ல, அது ஒரு ஊரைச் சிறப்பிக்கும் பெயர் ஆகும் என்பதை விளக்க, மூதூர் என்று சொல்லப்பட்டுள்ள தமிழ் இலக்கியப் பகுதிகளைக் கீழே தந்துள்ளேன்.

    இந்த இடத்தில் இது ஏமமாபுரம் என்னும் ஊரைக் குறிக்கிறது.

    10) கட்டியங் காரன் மூதூர் ( சீவக 1694)
    இந்த இடத்தில் கட்டியங்காரனுடைய ஊரான இராசமாபுரத்தைச் சொல்கிறது.

    11) தெக்கண மலயச் செழுஞ்சேறாடி பொற்கொடி மூதூர்ப் பொழிலாட் டமர்ந்தாங்கு (சிலப். 14, 82).

    ஊர்க்காண் காதையில் வரும் இங்குதான் மூதூர் என்பது மதுரையைக் குறிக்கிறது.

    மணிமேகலையில் பல இடங்களில் மதுரையைத் ‘தக்கணப் பேரூர்’ என்றே சொல்லப்பட்டுள்ளது.

    மூதூர் என்பது ஆரம்பத்தில் தென் மதுரையைக் குறிப்பதாக இருந்தால், அதற்குப் பின்னால் எழுந்த மேற்சொன்ன நூல்கள் பிற ஊர்களை மூதூர் என்று சொல்லி இருக்க முடியாது.

    இவை தவிர இன்னொறு விவரத்தைச் சொல்ல விரும்புகிறேன்.
    சிவனுக்கு ‘மதுரேசன்’ என்று பெயர், அந்தப் பெயர் அடிக்கடி மதுரைக் கலம்பகத்தில் வருகிறது.
    சிவன் கொன்றை மலர் சூடியவன், அந்தக் கொன்றை மலர் தேன் / மது சிந்தும் மலராகும். அவன் ‘தேந்தந்த கொன்றையான்’ (ம-க, 48) அதனாலும் அவன் மதுரேசன்.

    மதுர என்னும் மொழித் தொடர்பையும் இந்தக் கட்டுரையில் காண்டோம். இவ்வாறு மதுரத்துடன் தொடர்பு கொண்ட மதுரையை, மூதூர் என்ற பொதுச் சொல்லிலிருந்து வந்தது என்று சொல்வது - நீங்கள் சொல்வது போல குழந்தைகள் சொல்லலாம். கற்றறிந்தவர்கள் சொல்ல முடியாது.

    3. pavithran is a sanskritised form of Tamil name Pavatharan.

Just like when british came to India they could not pronounce the names the way Indians did and made their own way of pronouncing it. Examples are thousands. Mumbai - Bombay, Kolkotta - Calcutta, Thiruvananthapuram -Trivandrum, Thoothukudi - Tutukorin. And these names were used by the rulers. Same thing happened during those days during the ariyans period. If you go back a little further during the muslim rule, you would see that samething had happened. The degree of power used to implement these rules, you can imagine, during british, and more during the muslim rule, and more and more during the Aryans rule. Do not try to make stories for Sanskrit. all the words in Sanskrit can be explained etymologically with Tamil base. Example pooja: poo + ja. Explain it etymologically. You are doing what they have been doing for thousands of years, making cover-up stories. Wake up. your work and efforts should not be a waste. You have talent, use it in the right way. What is wrong in telling the truth. Truth will prevail no matter how much it is hidden. Sathya meva jeyathe - it is also from old Tamil corrupted by the invaders/ or immigrant. You said Sinhala people came to Srilanka 3000 years BC or so. Even Sinhalese would not accept this. Just like Taj mahal is claimed by muslim as "not-siva temple". One day technology will prove everything dear.

There is Vedic sanskrit and classical sanskrit. Vedic sanskrit is timeless and exists forever. One who catches the necessary wave length starts speaking out Vedic sanskrit. That is the basis of Creation. Read my comments in the 6th article to know more about it. I have quoted there an article by Prof Yajna Subramaniyam, a scientist in New Jersy on the experiments done on Vedic sanskrit.

It is from Vedic sanskrit Tamil and classical sanskrit germinated. The Pirappiyal Suthram in Tholkappiyam refers to Vedas as the source to learn maatras, Read my 61st article.

Read the comment section of the 54th article where a comparative analysis of Tamil and Sanskrit letters is done, It shows that the very grammar of Tamil and Sanskrit were complementary in nature proving the dictum that grammar of both Tamil and Sanskrit (classical Sanskrit and not Vedic Sanskrit) were taught by Lord Shiva simultaneously to Agasthya and Panini.

    5. பெயரில்லா mentioned two words 'pavitra' and 'puja'.

Both these words have Sanskrit roots and not Tamil roots. Panini explains the etymology of Pavitra. The root word is 'puu' in Sanskrit which means 'cleanse' Similarly Puja is derived from Sanskrit root 'puuj' which means 'reverence'

Check this page in the book of Sanskrit roots:- https://archive.org/stream/rootsverbformspr00whitrich#page/98/mode/2up

While doing the comparison of similar Tamil and Sanskrit words, we have to check the meaning and application of the words too. For example words such as 'pindam' and 'Mantram' described in Tholkappiyam are Sanskrit words basically because the roots and etymology exist in Sanskrit. In 74th article you can read an explanation of it.

Similarly Pavitra (puu+ itra) has its roots in Sanskrit and application too. From 'puu' meaning to cleanse, pavitra is pure and the pavitra finger is the ring finger where Vediks wear the pavitra ring made of darbai grass for purifactory purpose. Perhaps the English word 'pure' derived from Latin 'purus' was originally derived from Sanskrit.

On Puja, the 'ja' is not a Tamil letter. Wherever the 'ja' exists in Tamil, know that it is derived from Sanskrit. The wikipedia article was perhaps the source for your mis-conception on Puja as having Tamil roots. The German writer who had written that Puja was perhaps derived from Dravidian languages was wrong. In ancient Tamil texts, the reference is to "poovum, punalum ittu vazhipaduthal' but never shrank it as Poosanai. Both are different. Poo is part of the vazhipaadu.

But Puja means 'reverence'. Its further manifestation is 'Pujya". To understand this we must analyse Pujyam. Pujyam means zero. The idea of zero is that it sucks everything within it. Anything multiplied by zero is zero and anything divided by zero is infinity. This is characteristic Almighty Brahman. This is discussed in Chandogya Upanishad as "Shoonyam" wherein the concept of "Tat Tvam asi" (That are Thou) is explained. Since Pujya had such characteristic, it is highly venerable. In Sanskrit the meaning is the word. In 66th article I have explained it.

      This clearly shows your talent.
Exactly what muslim claims that Quran was given by Allah, and the Bible was revealed by God. No place for science.

Pooja is = poo + ja = poo + sey. and ja is a distorted form of sey. When you say something god given means you are trying to hide something. How long? You can entertain people with anything but You can't educate.
Brahmin = from Tamil = peru + maannan = great learned. twisted and distorted like Bombay to Mumbai,
Ilakkiyam = Ilakku + iyam. all are Tamil words. Anything with "iya(m)" in Sanskrit is from Tamil. For example Sanakiyam = Sanakan + iyam, vaaku + iyam = vaakiyam the root word is vai + vikuthi
There rare thousands more. Sanskrit was from Tamil. You can not avoid it. Look at the way you explained it for Paanini. That was correct. I like Sanskrit too, But I can not lie. Go with science and the proof. Please use your wisdom for exposing the truth. Do your duty, do not bother the fruit. Follow Bagavath Geetha correctly, please. Do not give funny etymology for "lekya". Look at the "ya" in "lekya" = lek + ya . the root words has any meaning?
In Tamil ilakku + iyam. each one has its own meaning. Each one can combine with other root wrds and for meaningful words. for example ilakku +ann + am = ilakkaNam, and Sanskrit was a created language like Europian "Esperento" for a need. You can not fool all the people all the time. This is internet era. If you want to enjoy glory of the Tamil's fast join the club. You cannot hide the fact for a long time dear. Come on, Fist the Aryan and then the European hid the fact. now the modern Tamil(?).

Allah = Al + la = pure Tamil word. Can you work on this. please.
This is the route: Sumeria -> Babylonia -> Arabia, and Israel. It is very simple. All the religions are offshoots of Hinduism.

    10. You are trying to prove that Allah is a Tamil word. I understand your agenda. Let me tell you who is a Tamil. I am reproducing it from my old article in English blog http://jayasreesaranathan.blogspot.in/2011/08/big-thanks-to-ms-jayalalithaa-for.html

A Tamil is not a Tamil by virtue of having the ability to speak Tamil or for being born to parents who speak Tamil. But a Tamil is one who considers this land as his, the rivers as his and the Deities who are associated with this land and rivers as his. He may move to any other land, but only as long as he considers the deities of this land as his and follows the worship of these deities and the festivals of these deities, can he be considered as a Tamil. None others who worship other deities can claim themselves as Tamils because just by speaking Tamil, one can not to be considered as Tamils, By this Christians and Muslims who speak Tamil can not be considered as Tamils, just because they speak Tamil. Even we speak English but that does not make us English people, for the simple reason that we do not follow English culture. Similarly let not all those Christians, Muslims and Atheists who do not follow the core principle of deity- culture of the ancient Tamils be not considered as Tamils.

They know this pretty well, that is why they are trying to subvert the Hindu basis of Tamil Culture in all possible ways of which the attempt to change the New Year to Thai was one. For all those who may find this view of mine as unacceptable, I want to draw attention to what Shahi Imam told yesterday on Anna Hazare movement. He called upon the muslims of this country not to support Anna's movement. Because they can not accept this land as their God. They can not call this land as their Mother or Goddess. Similarly the Christian organizations have opposed Anna's movement. For these 2 communities, their Gods lie outside India. They can not accept the Gods of this land. The same logic holds good in the case of who a Tamil is.

    11. A Tamil is one who swears allegiance to the numerous Hindu Gods of this land.Any one taking glory on Tamil's literary past and culture can not accept alien Gods imported from outside. Let all those who have allegiance to outside Gods, call themselves as Christians and Muslims who can speak Tamil but not as Tamils who are Christians and Muslims.

In the context I also wish to sound a warning to all those who have defied the Hindu culture of Tamils and taken refuge in alien religions, that defiance of Gods of Tamil land would only land them in trouble as those deities which were once worshiped by their Hindu ancestors are now neglected by them after they have embraced alien religions. That would afflict their off-springs from the 3rd generation onwards.

They want to claim yourselves as Tamils and not want to give up the language. Giving up a language would not do any harm. But giving up the deity of the land would do. More important than the language is the deity that guarded this land. By giving up these deities / by ignoring them, they have no right to claim any connection to Tamil lands and its basic culture which is Hindu.

To cite just one text, Silapapdhikaram is full of Hindu Gods, description of worship of those Gods, Hindu customs of which one full chapter was dedicated to the marriage of Kanangi and Kovalan which was done as a Brahma Vivaha and numerous narrations on Karma theory and many characters coming to know of the past birth happenings etc. This Karma theory is the very core of the Hindu Concept. Even the decision of the Cheran King to found a temple for Kanangi was made after a discussion with his wife on concept of Godhood of Hinduism.

    12. The entire story of Kannagi was narrated to the author by Kannagi Herself according to this text. Before concluding Kannagi in Deity form (after consecration) delivers an advice to the author which is full of Hindu Thought. She begins by calling people to know what is God and search for God in order to get a better understanding. The last advice is to do good karma in order to get a better rebirth! These two certainly can have no resonance with the Christians and Muslims. Any one shifting to these 2 religions, automatically forfeit their connection to Tamil culture and therefore to Tamil language. But these people and atheists do not accept this. That is why they are causing trouble to True Tamils by meddling with their customs and culture or claiming Allah as Tamil word!!!!!

(Given below is the full text of Kannagi's advice to Ilango in the last chapter of Silappadhikaram)

    1. Spoken language at the time of Ramayana was Tamil or rather Proto-Tamil, known as Madhura bhasha. Read my research article in English here: http://jayasreesaranathan.blogspot.in/2013/04/hanuman-and-sita-conversed-in-madhura.html

Infact Spoken Tamil is very old even before sangam was set up 12,000 years ago. The early settlers on India who moved from Indian Ocean habitat were speaking that Tamil. Their first settlements were on the western shore of South India, Vaivasvatha Manu was one among them. They were originally called as Dravidas (Sanskrit word). My recent article on Mundas bring out these. That article can be downloaded from here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/221731922/Munda-people-a-product-of-Parashurama-s-fury

If you can not download, read them all here: http://jayasreesaranathan.blogspot.in/2014/04/mundas-fused-culture-of-tamil-and.html

This link is to the 10th article in that series. There you can read the Tamil connection to many Munda words and also on Dravida Manu!!

Coming to the word Lekhya

First of all, no word in Tamil starts with 'la'. A prefix such as 'e' will be added for such words. From this the first level understanding is that ilakkiyam and ilakkanam are not indigenously Tamil words. 'Lakkiyam' is adopted as 'ilakkiyam' and 'lakkanam' is adopted as 'ilakkanam.

For Ilakkiyam, the root word is Sanskrit 'likh' meaning 'scratch" Check the Sanskrit root here:- https://archive.org/stream/rootsverbformspr00whitrich#page/146/mode/2up

It means scarification of or scratching bark. Writing started by scratching the tree barks. Therefore likh came to signify writing. From Likh > Likhya > Lekha > Lekhya. The word patram also is Sanskrit as Patram means leaf. Likita patram means written leaf. What we say as "paththiram" in land dealings is derived from this word only.

In the word likh / lekh, it is likh/ lekh + ya = lakhya > ilakkiyam in Tamil.

In the word 'ilakkanam', the sanskrit root word is 'laksh'.
It is 'laksh' + Nam = lakshanam > lakkanam > ilakkanam.

Ilakkiyam from lekhya in sanskrit has similar meaning = writing
ilakkanam from lakshana in sanskrit has similar meaning = characteristics.

    3. Thank you dear.
you have said: "Infact Spoken Tamil is very old even before sangam was set up 12,000 years ago. The early settlers on India who moved from Indian Ocean habitat were speaking that Tamil. Their first settlements were on the western shore of South India, Vaivasvatha Manu was one among them. They were originally called as Dravidas (Sanskrit word). "

My question is : Who was speaking Sanskrit at that time to call Tamil as Dravidas? Was Sanskrit a separate language spoken by some other people at that time? OR Were the two languages spoken by the same people, existing side by side?
But from other article of yours I have read that it was Tamil people who lived all over the present India. Please answer these questions?

Without reading the articles as a series, you are asking this. I have explained what Dravida means and how and where it was used.

Tamil and sanskrit co-existed together with Tamil as spoken language and sanskrit as Vedic language in the remote past. Later when grammar was formed, it was formed simultaneously for Tamil and Sanskrit. That was how Classical Sanskrit as we have today was formed. The time period was 12,500 years ago.

There are many many articles on this issue in my English blog. Perhaps the following views written by me in the article http://jayasreesaranathan.blogspot.in/2012/11/date-of-indian-civilization-pushed-upto.html
      could shed some quick light.

First read that article in that link to know the wide presence of a common people from Madagascar to Andes mountain across the Indian Ocean and Pacific ocean some 25000 years ago. Their common language was proto-Tamil. The same people who elevated spiritually caught up with Vedic sanskrit through meditation.

      Now to your specific points:-

      # The deluge in the story of Vaivasvatha Manu happened at the end of Ice age, when sudden rise on water level happened in the Arabian sea. Manu and his men were settled on the west course of South India in the land that was exposed and extended to the west of the western ghats at that time. Search my English blog for Graham Hancock and you will get into the articles where I have explained this using his inundation maps.

Dravida Proper was a considerably huge extension in the west off Maharashtra in the western extended land off the western ghats. That stretch was the only habitable region about 14,000 yrs BP. Until the Mahabharata period, (5000 yrs BP) bits and pieces of that stretch were above the sea level as small islands. In the last article of the Munda series, I had explained that and also showed that the Santhima dweepa from where Cholan brought the Ramakuta crown given by Parasurama was there as one among numerous islands off Maharashtra which were since lost into the seas. The link to Munda series - http://www.scribd.com/doc/221731922/Munda-people-a-product-of-Parashurama-s-fury

      # Manu did not sail to Gangetic valley as the Ganges was still confined to Gangothri glacier then. Manu was pushed by the floods to Saraswathi river which was 4 KM wide at that time - via Dwaraka. That is why Dwaraka as the gate gained importance and was remembered throughout after that, and reclaimed every time it was inundated.

      # What were the previous origins of Manu? By the meaning of the name Dravida, I infer that he ran away from a war / fight previously. He means, not just he but his ancestors. The previous incident in my opinion was the war of Daksha in which Shiva and his men destroyed Daksha's people by fire. I consider this as an allusion to the destruction by fire in an earlier era when mankind was huge in the scattered settlements in the Indian ocean. There is a Paripadal (sangam text) verse telling about the destruction caused by each of the Pancha Bhootha one by one in different time periods in the past.

The last destruction was by water, which wiped off the vital link between east Africa and Sundaland in the Indian Ocean. It started around 14,000 years and ended 3500 years ago in 4 spells of which the last 3 spells disturbed Tamil (Pandyan)settlements in the Indian Ocean.

      (continued)

    5. # The destruction by fire occurred before this destruction by water. That was about the war of Daksha in which most people perished in the Indian ocean settlements. The remaining people had split into two, with one group moving towards Arabian sea corridor and settling on the sea shore wherever the shore or extended land was available going up to the limit of Maharashtra - Gujarat (Gujarat was not a peninsula then). These people - since they ran away were regarded as Dravida (the etymological meaning which was later modified by Manu himself as Kshatriya vratya.). They carried the proto Tamil - called as 'Kodum Thamizh' which later came to be known as Apa-Brahmsa in Sanskrit

      # Sanskrit was already developed by then. Even as Manu and other survivors started their lives in the stretch off Western Ghats (they did not go inland of South India, probably because of the ghats as a barrier and also because the interior South India was a dense shrubby region not fit for habitation at that time. Hancock's maps show that.

At the same time, the other group that stayed on had drifted far-South in the Indian Ocean and established Tamil Sangam - of refined Tamil that we speak to day. The Sanskrit was already a developed one by the sages of the previous land before the fire-destruction. In my opinion that was known as Shaka Dweepa at that time. The details of this can be read in in other article in the current Tamil blog. The varna culture was there and Shiva was the deity who gave the rule book of Dharma at that time. Tamil was the colloquial and spoken language of the people all over that region in the Indian ocean in south and south west Asia, including Sundaland.

      # After the fire- destruction (Daksha episode), population was reduced and separated which I explained above. The remaining people of that region started the Tamil Sangam which is dated at 12,500 years BP as per Irayanaar kalaviyal, a 10th century book. That is how we have the division of North and South genetic strains that had a common origin earlier.

      (continued)

    6. # This population further dates back to 25,000 years BP when Sundaland was an brimming with habitation. The puranic Sunda- Upasunda must be related to this region with geological meaning.

      # The Daitya Prahaladha, Virochana and Bali lived in Sundaland. In my opinion Varaha, Narasimha and Vamana avathara occurred in Sundaland. A splinter group after Narasimma avatara had landed in the east coast of Andhra pradesh (Vishaka pattna?) from there. The word Andhra means garland of intestines around the neck - a term which is mentioned in Runa vimochan sthothramm of Lord Narasimha. There is a group in Andhra which is genetically different from all the other people of India. Further studies are needed to check if their genetic markers match with any in regions around Sundaland. It must also be mentioned that Sundaland was the region of Kurma avatara. It was the turtle island that in mentioned by Meso American groups as their ancestral region. Anthropologically giant turtles lived in Sundaland. This land underwent many geological and volcanic disturbances as though a churning of the milky ocean was happening. The name Mandarin to Chinese language perhaps was derived from the Mandara malai base on this Turtle island and the churning of this region which is metaphorical of geological disturbances.

      # In this region, the equator splits the land as north and south (Deva and Asura). Like this we can keep telling a lot of things - all with the help of Mahabharata narrations.

      # In Hindu texts Sunda land was called as Swarnadweepa - where Hiranyapura of Daitya- Danavas was present. Gold smithy was at its peak in that region. Sanskrit (Vedic)was present at that time. Unrefined, pre-Sangam period Tamil was the spoken language.

      # Even before that time a former migration from the South to the North via NW India to Central Europe had happened according to genetic studies.

      # The gold smithy and stone works were carried by Danavas and Mayans to Central Europe. There is a genetic study that says that Neandardals were taught gold works by some advanced people some 40,000 years ago. That advanced people were these danavas.

      # Another proof of this is the golden Lion man discovered in Germany.
      http://frontiers-of-anthropology.blogspot.in/2013/02/ice-age-lion-man-is-worlds-earliest.html

This Lion man concept is Hindu concept, probably originating form Narasimha avatara that happened in Sunda land.

    7. Now coming to the homeland of Tamils.

If we go into the past as I wrote above, we find that there was NO specific identity as Tamils. People of a vast land spread across the Indian Ocean from Sundalamnd to Magagaskar spoke the proto Tamil which was then called as Madura. Google Madurese - that was also the shoot -up of Madura mozhi. Refer my article http://jayasreesaranathan.blogspot.in/2013/04/hanuman-and-sita-conversed-in-madhura.html

Coming to the Tamil homeland, the speakers of early Tamil had spread out geographically over a vast region and were diverse as a people. Their ethnicity may be different. Their genetic constitution may be different. Their skin colour may be different. But they all spoke some variation of proto Tamil. They spread as far as Meso- America on the one side and Africa on the other. The presence of proto Tamil was because their ancestors in the remote past, say 25000 years ago lived together as a small group in the India Ocean habitat near the Sundaland - Australia region.

Of them a small group coming under the rulership of Pandyans were exposed to grammatical Tamil and sustained it through Sangam assemblies. What we retain as grammatical Tamil now was last written 3500 yrs ago. It happened after the last deluge when the last batch of Pandyan survivors landed in Madurai.

      # At that a major arrival of people from Indus- saraswathi region happened when Saraswathi was totally lost by a series of land subsidence and earthquakes. The Velirs and the many artisan castes including stone workers arrived to Tamil lands and settled down around the regions of Chera, Chola, Pandyas. The Patthu pattu kings such as Nalliyak kodan is one such immigrant. Gauda > Koda are same. Gaunda " Kaunda are also of their stock only.

      # But by 9th century AD, more mixing of people had happened. As the 9th century Nacchinaarkkimniyar wrote in his commentary to Tholkappiyam, a small stretch of land in Madurai - Tanjore proper had people who spoke original grammatical Tamil around this time. In other words, the Tamil spoken in the early 3 lands of Chera, Chola and Pandya had shrunk to this region. All the rest - that include the different dialects of Tamil were not from Tamil proper people. They all had mixed origins and were from Manu's descendants.

      # Even the so-called Paraiahs of Chennai - which colonial period census records had recorded as numbering to 3 lakhs at that time, were all of north Indian descendance. They moved to madras then because they were not accepted within their communities for having taken to cow-slaughter and other slaughter during Muslim rule. Their spoken language was Kodum tamil which became Madras Tamil due to influence by English language which they picked up from the British whom they served in the then Madras.

      # The entire belt from Maharastra / Kolapur to Kanyakumari also had migrants from North India, settled over centuries. Their Kodum Tamil had a different slant and became regional dialects of Tamil in due course.

      # From all this you will see that identification of Tamil as a people or race has no basis. By speaking Tamil we regard ourselves as Tamils. That is all. If we say that by speaking this language, a person gets a Tamil identity, then even the Tonga man in Polynesian islands must be regarded as a Tamil as he was a branch from the early settlement in Sangam period.

Kindly share your views on Yezidi tribes spread in Iraq, Iran, Syria landlocked in Central Asia. amazed to know that they share lot of Hindu culture and they worship peacock, snake, fire, sunrise & sunset, believe in reincarnation and no conversion into their clan, strict gotra. its very painful
to see their persecution in Iraq by ISIS and world watching silently for almost 2 months.
